This photo
of Lenny, taken by Edmund Shea, was "solarized" by Wes
Wilson, who designed the poster, and is one of the first photos
to be so treated on a poster. Maybe the very first. Artists like
Wes and myself were experimenting with various ways we could manipulate
traditional imagery and photo/printing techniques. All easy-peasey
now with digital art, but back then it was ground-breaking stuff.
Lenny Bruce
was an ascerbic, anti-establishment comedian who pulled no punches.
He used strong language, and cornered the adult market with his
invective and expletive-laced humor.
Just as the
poster artists were breaking all the rules and inventing new ones,
so Lenny was doing the same for stand-up.
He was dangerous....and
he was "out there."
This poster
is in perfect condition.
