A book about the growth of airbrush illustration in Los Angeles in the 70's and 80's and the colorful characters who were turning out the world's finest commercial art....much of which was fine, fine art and will be priceless someday. When I was right in the middle of it all, I knew even then I eventually wanted to write a book about these colorful artists and their crazy lives and the business they were in. These guys led the whole world in terms of modern imagery. Like the Haight-Ashbury, it was a colorful time with lots of sex and drugs and rock n' roll and film work, with mad stories abounding about very talented people in Tinseltown. These talents were the Monets and Rembrandts of the late 20th century and producing images that will last forever in our visual consciousness. They will be as famous as the Impressionists in a hundred years, yet they are unknown outside the business at the moment. Airbrush will have many beautiful color plates of stunning artwork. I can access all the necessary material and know all the artists involved, so this will be a visual feast and entertaining story set in the backdrop of Hollywood, ladled with movie ghosts. This lot were producing ALL the top album covers of all the top artists, as well as supplying the film industry with the first designs and special effects that would lead up to what we take for granted today as state-of-the-art computer-generated imagery. This could be a very important book in cataloguing this creative bubble in the history of art.
